2 Festivals at Cabadbaran City, Agusan Del Norte

INTRODUCTION: 
    -Cabadbaran City's main festival is the Dagkot Festival, celebrated annually on February 2nd to honor the city's patron saint, Nuestra Señora de CandelariaThe name "Dagkot" means "to light a candle" in Cebuano, and the event is a large-scale candle lighting celebration featuring street dancing, music, and competitions, symbolizing prayers, gratitude, and hope. The festival, first launched in 2008, is the largest of its kind in the Caraga region and highlights Cabadbaran's vibrant culture. The other Festival that is being held at Cabadbaran City is the "Sadow tu Agusan", celebrated
annualy in Month of June.

ORIGIN OF DAGKOT FESTIVAL:

    - The Dagkot Festival in Cabadbaran City originated from the Cebuano word "dagkot," meaning "to light," and is a celebration of the city's patron saint, Our Lady of Candle (Nuestra Señora de Candelaria). The festival, held annually on February 2nd, is rooted in the Catholic tradition of lighting candles for thanksgiving, praise, and prayer. It has evolved to include a week-long celebration with cultural, religious, and economic activities like street dancing, parades, and trade fairs. 

Name Origin 
"Dagkot" is a Cebuano word for "to light," symbolizing the core activity of the festival. 

- The festival honors the patron saint of Cabadbaran City, "Our Lady of Candle," and is centered on the Catholic tradition of lighting candles as an offering of gratitude and prayers.(Religious Basis) 
 

-Activities of Dagkot Festival includes: parade, battle of the band (lyre and drums competition), street dancing, and concerts.

How to get there: If you are somewhere far away to the City, you may first take a Bus first, and next transportation is the Tricycle. Cabadbaran City tricycles can manage to bring you somewhere at Cabadbaran's attraction if you still have time during your visit.

2. Sadow Tu Agusan (Araw ng Agusan Festival)

Origin of Sadow Tu Agusan/Sadow Festival:

    - The Sadow Tu Festival in Cabadbaran City is rooted in the celebration of the founding anniversary of the province of Agusan del Norte, with "Sadow Tu Agusan" being the name of the festival. It began as a "festival of festivals" where the participating local government units (LGUs) showcase their rich culture and traditions through a grand parade and a street dancing competition. The festival is an annual event held to celebrate and highlight the cultural heritage of the province, including the culture of indigenous groups in the region

    Name Origin: 
       "Sadow" means celebration in the local dialect."Tu" means of"Agusan" refers to the province, Agusan del Norte. The phrase "Sadow tu Agusan" therefore translates to "Celebration of Agusan"

  -It features the rich culture and traditions of the local indigenous peoples, including the Manobo, Mamanwa, and Higaonon tribes, through float and dance competitions. Annually celebrated in the Month of June.
